Free QuoteIn this article, we will learn the series connection of capacitors and will also derive the expressions of their equivalent capacitance. The capacitors in series technically behave as
Free QuoteCapacitors can be connected to each other or to other types of components very easily because a capacitor has two leads as an electronic component. When capacitors are effectively daisy chained together in a single

Free QuoteCapacitors can be arranged in two simple and common types of connections, known as series and parallel, for which we can easily calculate the total capacitance. These two basic combinations, series and parallel, can also be
Free QuoteCapacitors in series means two or more capacitors connected in a single line. Positive plate of the one capacitor is connected to the negative plate of the next capacitor.

Free QuoteWe can easily connect various capacitors together as we connected the resistor together. The capacitor can be connected in series or parallel combinations and can be connected as a mix of both. In this article, we will learn about capacitors connected in series and parallel, their examples, and others in detail.
If two capacitors of 10 µF and 5 µF are connected in the series, then the value of total capacitance will be less than 5 µF. The connection circuit is shown in the following figure. To get an idea about the equivalent capacitance, Let us now derive the expression of the equivalent capacitance of two capacitors.
Circuit Connections in Capacitors - In a circuit, a Capacitor can be connected in series or in parallel fashion. If a set of capacitors were connected in a circuit, the type of capacitor connection deals with the voltage and current values in that network.
The total capacitance ( C T ) of the series connected capacitors is always less than the value of the smallest capacitor in the series connection. If two capacitors of 10 µF and 5 µF are connected in the series, then the value of total capacitance will be less than 5 µF. The connection circuit is shown in the following figure.
As for any capacitor, the capacitance of the combination is related to both charge and voltage: C = Q V. When this series combination is connected to a battery with voltage V, each of the capacitors acquires an identical charge Q.
These two basic combinations, series and parallel, can also be used as part of more complex connections. Figure 8.11 illustrates a series combination of three capacitors, arranged in a row within the circuit. As for any capacitor, the capacitance of the combination is related to the charge and voltage by using Equation 8.1.
