Standard-speed charging ports cost an average of 55p per kWh whereas rapid chargers cost around 80p/kWh on average. A 150kWh fast charger can recharge a 60kWh battery in about 30 minutes. Some supermarket chains, such as Aldi and Asda, offer free charging at their stores, as an incentive to shop.
By comparison, a 50kW rapid charger can charge up to 100 miles in less than 35 minutes for most electric car brands. The size of your car's battery and the speed of the charging station will determine how long it takes for your car's battery to charge fully from empty, so it's best to check the EV charger requirements.
Public chargers can be much more expensive than charging at home. They are priced per kWh and in many cases the cost is around £0.60 to £0.90.
Charging at home can be very cheap. In every EV review by The Independent you'll find the estimated cost of 100 miles of range when using the E.ON Drive Next tariff, which currently costs from 6.7p per kWh.
