Thanks for any help. Ground mount does not need module level rapid shutdown. Roof mount needs it for most sane string voltages. Typically the RSD are connected to something that turns off if the inverter is shut off. Things are a lot easier with grid tie since inverters are grid-interactive and automatically shutdown.
The whole purpose of off-grid solar modules (let's say they are on the roof) connected directly to batteries is to charge them during a long grid failure. So if (module level?) RSDs has to be triggered by a grid shutdown, that would defeat the purpose.
A Rapid Shutdown Device is a safety mechanism designed for solar PV systems. It quickly disconnects the PV modules or arrays from the inverter, reducing the voltage to a safe level within seconds. This feature is particularly vital during emergencies like fires or electrical faults, ensuring the safety of first responders and maintenance personnel.
Locate the AC ISOLATOR main switch and turn the switch to the OFF position. Alternatively, go to your fuse board, locate the PV ARRAY main switch, and flick to the OFF position. At the inverter, locate the DC ISOLATOR and turn to the OFF position. If there is a battery fitted, locate the 2nd DC ISOLATOR, and turn to the OFF position.
Your solar PV system should now be completely off. All lights and screen displays will be dead. Keep the system off for a minimum of five minutes. ISOLATOR on first, followed by AC ISOLATOR, followed by your solar supply main switch.
