Among all options, lithium-ion storage stands out as the most mature technology to meet the grid's rapid short-lived imbalances. These assets can be activated in a few seconds by the grid operator but are limited by their charging time, most often of an hour or two (and up to four hours).
The BESS will boast a storage capacity nearly five times that of France's current largest operational battery. It will have the capacity to store around 20% of the residential electricity needs of the Marne department, which is home to more than half a million residents.
Recent technical progress in the field of batteries will play a key role in #1 increasing the uses of storage, particularly in the context of energy transition. Batteries can provide several services in large power systems, distribution grids, microgrids or atcustomers' premises.
